A few weeks ago, I began my junior year at Columbia College Chicago! This year I have decided to take on more leadership roles on campus. This means I will have many meetings, programs, classes and a hectic social life as well. However, I cannot forget the One who has brought me this far. The One who favors me, the One I love and the One who gives me strength when I am falling apart - the One whose love is constant and the One who continues to believe in me no matter what. This, of course, is Christ Jesus, my Lord.
Worshiping is my escape: dancing, singing, lifting my hands in the air and falling before Jesus. I used to hate it and I thought it was weird. Sometimes I felt that worshiping was an act and that people just wanted attention and that I was supposed to applaud their two-step show.
Nevertheless, God checked my heart: “Dominique, it is not about them and it is not about you, it is about me.”
What is the purpose of worship?
Well, it is definitely not for entertainment. Every jump, stomp, and hand-wave have a detailed message, a deep unresolved insecurity attached to it. I'm letting satan know that he will lose this battle and that when it comes to my life, he is powerless.
I am throwing my hands in the air and freeing myself from the stresses of the world. It is a vulnerable moment. It is a perfect moment. It is a chance to be free. It is a chance for God to come into your heart and stir some things up. Because, your worship moment is your chance to be 100% focused on God; not looking to the right or the left, but straight ahead on Him.
Worship is a lifestyle. It does not stop or start when the drums begin to play. God has placed a special song inside each and every one of our hearts. This song holds everything from our fears and doubts to our hopes and biggest dreams.
Don't keep that song unsung.
“For you should worship no other God, for the lord who name is jealous, is a jealous God.”- Exodus 33:20
God is jealous for ALL of you - not just the parts you think are perfect. He wants your pain, your low self-esteem and all the negative thoughts that tell you that you are not good enough. You are more than enough. You are his precious son or daughter and worshiping is the special time that you get to spend with God.
For where your heart lies, is where your treasure lies also and my heart is rooted in the worship to my King.
I will not be ashamed to express my love for my Lord and I refuse to allow satan to have control over my worship by making me feel uncomfortable. Therefore, when the bible says, “let the earth be moved," Psalm 99. I take it literally and I make sure that I can feel the floor moving under my feet while I am worshiping. Be bold in your worship and the Lord will give you strength to be bold in everything else.
"The Lord is my strength and my song; here he has become my salvation. He is my God, and I will praise him, my father's God, and I will exalt him" Exodus 15:2
